They both hold degrees from Florida Institute of Technology and they have together been involved in many ventures including automotive restoration and collision repair. Rod Shop Inc. was founded in 1983 primarily as an antique automobile restoration shop by Ed and Tim and shortly after that became incorporated. Over the years since the business was started, the owners and their shop have grown to be one of the most respected collision and technical repair facilities on the Treasure Coast. STUDENT Damage Appraisal: Rod Shop Inc. has two highly qualified and experienced damage appraisers who have been ASE Certified MASTER TECH's in all areas of automotive repair including collision damage estimating and have over 50 years of collision damage estimating experience between them. In 1995 they helped develop testing criteria for the ASE Collision Damage Appraisers Certification Test. Estimating System: The computerized estimating system in use is Pathways, w/EZNet a CCC product, which references the MOTOR crash estimating guides and uses P-Page Logic. With EZNet Rod Shop can upload to your company damage estimates and digital photographs via the internet. Digital imaging is in place, the imaging software currently in use is Pathways Digital Imaging by CCC. Reference materials used to establish vehicle value are the Kelly Blue Book, NADA Yellow Book the Official Black Book and the CCC total loss service. Written appraisals and damage estimates are also often made for customers on special interest, classic or antique automobiles. Computer hardware currently consists of several high performance laptops which are used both on and off site for damage appraisal. Automated Shop Management System: Rod Shop office personnel use a automated shop management system, Qbridge with Quickbooks. to track every step of the repair process from start to finish. The office personnel have taken the ICAR course for office personnel are well trained, kind and courteous. They regularly perform customer follow ups to see that every customer is satisfied with the services have been performed. Parking & Customer Reception: Ample customer parking is provided both on the property and on the street. A large customer reception is adjacent to the front office and estimating area it is clean comfortable and refreshments are provided. Amenities for Insurance Appraisers: Desk space can be provided for insurance appraisers which puts at their disposal a telephone, calculator, color copy machine, HP laser printer, fax, electrical and telephone connections for a laptop computer and other supplies.. Facility Description, Size & Construction: The facility consists of two large buildings divided by a storage yard. Both buildings are of masonry, concrete and steel construction. Interior shop space can accommodate vehicles as tall as 20 ft and as long as 40 ft. The walls and foundation of the main buildings are hurricane resistant. The entire facility is air conditioned and heated. Square footage of the shop is approx. 18,000 (facility proper). Security & Storage: Secure vehicle storage area is 10,000sqft. with a concrete surface composition. Storage area, as well as the shop, is well lighted, fenced and protected by a alarm system with 24hr video recorded security which is monitored by a central police dispatching station for security protection. Sublet Repairs: All repairs and replacements are made in house with the exception of upholstery repairs. Wheel alignments are performed in house during the repair and sublet to another shop for solid verification reasons before any collision damaged vehicle is returned to the customer. Print outs of alignment specs are kept in the customer file. Towing: Both local and long distance towing it is provided on a 24hr basis both by Rod Shop. Rental Cars: Rental cars are on site and available to customers. They are provided by, Enterprise, Alamo and Budget depending upon availability. Transportation is routinely provided to customers to facilitate pick up and delivery of their vehicle. Mechanical Repairs: Mechanical repairs as well as air conditioning repairs are performed in house. All types of repairs are performed from brakes to fuel injection. Rod Shop is one of only a few shops in the area that provides both mechanical repair and body & paint repair under the same roof. Up to Date Repair Information: Shop Key the latest software for vehicle specific repair information retrieval is in place and currently being used to diagnose and trouble shoot the technical repairs performed everyday at the shop. With this software the technician can access critical information needed to service more vehicles in less time - improving customer satisfaction and overall shop efficiency. Rod Shop also maintains an extensive library stocked with video tapes, books, manuals and technical papers on all types of automobile related topics. If there is a chance of repairing a specific car the shop library has the information needed to do the repair correctly. Training Requirements: Rod Shop personnel are required to be ASE certified or ICAR trained. They are also required to maintain their certifications while employed here. The shop's owners encourage advanced training for their employees and reward them accordingly. In order to qualify for a position at the Rod Shop an applicant must have either already been certified by a recognized industry designator such as ASE, ICAR, PPG, BASF or CCC for example, or have attended college or a technical or trade school and received accreditation from that school. It is important to note that the shop not only employs the best people available to perform repairs, but wants to stress the importance of those employees ability not only to perform, but also their ability to properly use and obtain high yield results from those high tech pieces of equipment and tools that are at their disposal and used daily in the process of restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition. Spraybooth: The spraybooth is of concrete construction, custom built with Binks components measures 28' Long x 14' Wide x 14' High, has crossdraft air flow, is Quartz Infrared heated and has an automatic Halon Fire Extinguishing system installed. The inside height of the booth accommodates both trucks and vans, this ideal for custom vans with extended roofs. The spraybooth lighting is a blend of incandescent and fluorescent amps and is color corrected which provides a good environment in which to match color. The booth also has its own mid rise lift! Frame Equipment: Autorobot universal clamp 360o Frame & Unibody straightening bench with full frame ability and all the special tie downs and attachments to service any vehicle, Asian, European, and Domestic Measuring equipment: Autorobot, Rapid line, Steck measuring devices with full 3D upper body capabilities. Vehicle Dimensions: When it comes to specs we have complete coverage. Autorobot dimensions, Motor and OEM body and frame dimension manuals are used as well as the Electronic version of MOTOR frame specs E-FRAME. Welding Equipment: Miller welding equipment which includes resistance spot, MIG, MIG Brazing, TIG, AC/DC stick, and Gas including Plasma arc cutting. Welding repairs are performed on plastics, aluminum, stainless steel, high strength steel, cast iron, chrome molly and sheetmetal of all types. MIG & TIG welding equipment is in place for welding both steel and aluminum. Complete fabrication facilities are available in house for both mechanical and sheetmetal parts. Freon Recovery and Recycle Equipment: Robinaire, recovery and recycle equipment is in place for all refrigerants currently in use. There are 2 MACS certified technicians. The facility is also registered with the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection and has been issued an establishment number list above. Refinish System & Paint Mixing equipment: PPG Deltron (DBC) and PPG Concept (DCC) s used for all refinish work. The entire PPG paint system is used including primers, sealers, reducers and clearcoats. This allows for a complete warranty to be issued to the customer which is good for as long as they own the car. The complete intermix system, stock and supplies are fully enclosed in a ventilated and automatic Halon Fire Protected room. Car Hoists: There are five Rotary frame contact hoists for lifting automobiles to safe, comfortable and secure working heights. A Steelcrafters body roll over jig is also used for holding truck beds and cabs while off the frame or while performing extensive restoration work to the bottom structure and floor of automobiles. Wheel Alignment Equipment: Steck portable wheel alignment equipment is utilized to check alignment of the wheels while the car is mounted to the straightening bench. Tire & Wheel Equipment: Snap-On tire machine and Snap-on high speed wheel balancer We are able to service all the newest tires and wheels in our facility including Run Flat tires and wheels with air pressure sensors. Security System: A central station monitored security system is in use within the buildings and on fenced perimeter, there is also automatic security lighting and 24 hour security video monitoring and recording. Engine Performance Analyzer: Snap-On digital oscilloscope and Digital Computer Scanner with 4 gas emission analyzer is used to trace engine performance, fuel injection, and computer problems as well as air bag diagnostics. Compressed Air Supply: Two heavy duty industrial air compressors, 2 Quincy 70cfm air compressors, both producing Grade D (fit for human consumption) quality air for use in and around the shop. Media Blasting Equipment: Both commercial sandblasting and sodablasting equipment are utilized to remove rust and strip old finishes from delicate substrates such as plastic and aluminum.
